I recently read Stephen King’s “11/22/63,” where a man finds a portal that takes him back in time, just before the Kennedy assassination. What he finds is that whenever he tries to change an event in the past, the past pushes back, attempting to prevent him from changing it. That’s the way this marathon is feeling right now.
The closer I get, the larger and more frequent the obstacles. My knee is finally right, so naturally Laura brings home a head cold. While doing my best to avoid that, I’ve had to start fighting off a case of acute achilles tendonitis.
Last weekend, which was the last weekend before the race, when I should have been resting and trying to avoid the head cold germs circulating through my house, I was car shopping, replacing sinks, scheduling door repairs, and re-replacing sinks. Now that that’s all over with, today I’ve picked up what feels like a sinus infection.
I’m afraid to think of what might be around the corner, but it really feels like some force is trying to keep me out of this race. Needless to say, my stress levels are up, and that’s having a negative impact on most areas of my life. I need to be careful and slow down, at least for the next 5 days.
