Week 10 - Day-to-Day
I'm a little late on this post, and I was hoping to have a better topic to talk about, but my hope is fading quickly. Last week I had some great runs. I felt great and I was making some great times, despite the frigid weather. Then, 7 miles into my Thursday run a pain started to develop in my left knee. I thought maybe I could run through it, but I was wrong. I shut it down just under 8 miles and walked the rest of the way home. Later that night, I couldn't walk more than a couple steps before it felt like something had snapped under my knee cap. The next day it was much less painful, and I was hopeful that I was on the road to a quick recovery, but days later I can still barely walk half a mile.
Over the summer I rehabbed a knee issue that I decided was runner's knee. It was a strange injury as it came out of nowhere and after I rested up it didn't show up again unless I ran 2 miles or so. I could even play a full soccer game and not feel a thing. I was able to work through it with hip strengthening exercises and some rest, and I was slowly able to build up my distances again. This time is different.
This pain is not going away at all. Stretching, hip strengthening, yoga...it still hurts. Walking is barely an option and running is out of the question at the moment. With three weeks until the marathon I'm trying to stay positive, but realistically, the prognosis doesn't look good.
